Chosen Grounds is a national historic consulting service whose purpose is to assist historic sites, whether of buildings or land, in preserving their legacies and places for the civic or communal good.
What are Chosen Grounds?
Our purpose
Everything has a history. While we recognize people’s history and attach this remembrance to a place or places, the property involved in historical events and moments is often largely forgotten or left in ruin. Historic grounds, or chosen grounds, are places that were the site of pivotal occurrences in the life of a neighborhood, community, county, and State. As such, these chosen grounds must be preserved, renewed, and revitalized to continue their purpose into the future of the neighborhood, community, county, and State they exist in.
Chosen Grounds exist to help organizations to preserve the memories of their historic chosen grounds. Whether the grounds be religiously sacred, i.e., a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other structure; sacred as a burial ground, Native holy ground, or battleground, Chosen Grounds can assist in consultations to aid in the writing of these histories, the archiving of these histories, or researching and writing grants to preserve the space or other ways the client seeks in re-imagining of the place and space to preserve the historical nature of the property. For other historical structures, i.e., historic school buildings, factories, stores, etc., similarly, Chosen Grounds can assist owners in preserving the histories of these grounds.
